One of the first issues we tackled with the Media Awareness Project was bullying. Back in 2011 when we were founded, a lot of kids we knew were struggling with the impacts of this on their lives. This was a powerful youth-created PSA, but sadly, kids working in our programs today are just as stressed about bullying. In many ways, things haven’t changed for kids who experience violence or threats of it during a normal school day. But the conversation is happening and that’s critical to impacting people’s perceptions that bullying isn’t a big deal, or is just something a kid should be able to handle.
