Economic mobility is a Media Awareness Project priority.

Every kid is an at-risk kid. Let me say that again. But some kids are working with more than others. In Austin, about 1 out of every 4 kids is living at or below the poverty line. Their most basic needs are in question on a daily basis. At MAP, our focus is on creating one very valuable thing that every at-risk kid needs and wants.  We create SKILL. We create employment. We create the ability to earn a living.  Our programming trains kids in the technical art of digital media, and as we grow, we are working to link them to real work opportunities.
Imagine what a skill does for a 13 year old, a 14 year old, a high school student. A real skill equates to employability, a paycheck, an opportunity to own a business, a sustainable path to really changing their tomorrow, not just their right now.History predicts that the ‘right now’ problems will continue to exist. But it also predicts that building skills builds confidence, self-esteem, earning potential. It reduces juvenile recidivism, it lowers drop out rates, it lessens addiction and substance abuse and it is GAMECHANGING.  That’s what we’re about. We’re about changing the game, the outcome, the inevitable.
